Our Mission

A meal is more than food.

Soup Angels of Nyack's mission is to offer hot, nutritious, freshly prepared meals in a dignified and caring environment to anyone in need of a meal and companionship in our community — no questions asked.

Every Monday and Wednesday evening, our dining room opens its doors — through the glass entrance on Burd Street, with a wheelchair ramp for easy access — to neighbors who come for a restaurant-style meal, and for the conversation that comes with it. We're open through the holidays, because the need doesn't take a break either.

Our Story

It started with a Thanksgiving meal.

Nearly 20 years ago, three neighbors — Kathie Rife, Katie Berry, and Kathleen Myers — hosted a Thanksgiving meal for people in need at the First Reformed Church of Nyack. That one dinner grew into a Soup Angels legacy of service, compassion, and dignity that endures to this day, now housed in the same building, home to The Angel Nyack.

Dignity, at the table

“I am from South Africa, here in this country all alone. In 2013, a friend brought me here and I found a home, friends, support, and community. I've been coming ever since. Now I am a volunteer. This place and the people are a blessing to me. I love it here.”

“I love the sense of community and the idea of serving the guests and offering them a restaurant-style dining experience.”
